Kitchen pantry cabinets are taller cabinet units that often store cans, larger kitchen dishes, kitchen and dining room textiles and cookbooks. These cabinets often stretch from the floor all the way to the top of the wall-mounted cabinets, creating a connection between the base cabinet and wall cabinets. There are two types of kitchen pantry cabinets, each with a different set of standard dimensions.
Cabinet-Door Pantry Unit
One type of pantry cabinet is one that only offers shelving options with cabinet doors. These types of pantry cabinets come in single and double-door cabinets, depending on the overall space available in the kitchen. The general height is a full 94 1/2 inches, which is the total height from the floor to the top of the wall cabinets. A smaller version of this cabinet is only 84 inches in height and it is used when the wall-mounted cabinets are small as well. The total width of this pantry cabinet depends on the doors, meaning it may be 18, 24 or 30 inches wide.
Oven Pantry Cabinet
A second type of pantry cabinet is one suited for a smaller oven, such as a microwave or toaster oven. This type of pantry cabinet has the same height as the above-mentioned cabinet, meaning either an 84-inch or 94 1/2-inch height. However, this type of cabinet has a standard width of 33 inches, as it often offers a single set of cabinet doors and a set of drawers.
General Depth
The general depth of kitchen pantry cabinets is the same, whether the overall design is merely cabinet doors or a combination of drawers, open spaces for small appliances or open shelving. The standard depth is 24 inches, which is also the standard depth dimension for base cabinets. This measurement creates a cohesive design with existing kitchen cabinets in your kitchen, as the cabinet doors create a smooth surface.
Features of Pantry Cabinets
A single pantry cabinet unit offers various storage options. Common features include an open space for a microwave, drawers for dishwashing cloths and table cloths, shelving for cookbooks, wine glasses and vintage plates and open shelving for decorations. The pantry cabinets with cabinet doors offer storage for items you wish to keep hidden, such as cans or packages of food and kitchen bowels.
