There's no shortage of paint colors and stains to give your old kitchen cabinets and kitchen a complete make over. We would argue there are too many choices. So we've narrowed them down to 30 colors in three major categories to make your job easier.
We'll be the first to admit that choosing a color that you can live with is one of the most challenging aspects of decorating or remodeling in general. That's because the color of the cabinets and walls is a dominant feature and other things like the countertop and flooring depend on them.
Paint Colors and Stains
You'll have to determine if you want to paint or restain your cabinets. Today's computer technology allows most paint stores to mix thousands of colors and of course match colors. You're not limited to a specific paint colors brand name either. If for instance you find a great color in C2 Paints which is very expensive, you can ask another paint store to match it in Benjamin Moore, Behr, Ralph Lauren, Sherwin Williams, Duron or Lowes paint color. The cost will be definitely cheaper and one may not notice the difference.
Recently, we've noticed that some prominent TV designers are using deck stains on kitchen cabinets. There's quite a variety of colored stains available in the Home Depot Behr line. Of course if you are creative, you can mix stains and create your own custom color as well. Just remember to record the amounts you used and save them if you have to retouch the cabinets later on.
We'd be totally remiss if we didn't ask you to consider the color of your existing countertop and floor with the colors below. Everything has be be in harmony or else your effort and the money spent will be in vain.

Colors Tips
Many of the colors in the spreadsheet are taken from HGTV's website and shows. They do look good. Still we think that it's imperative for you to see how they look in your own kitchen and how they go with the colors in the remainder of your home. Besides that, the color of the actual paint may differ from what you see on your computer screen. See the kitchen below which is painted with Benjamin Moore's Aura paint "Elemental". it looks very different then the sample above (second row middle).
So before you make a final decision, select a few candidates and follow our instructions on how to choose the right paint color. Again, don't forget to factor in the existing flooring and countertop colors aslo. Strong colors are excellent on a backsplash or on one wall. They are especially good if your cabinet colors are on the neutral side. We used a strong color like C2 Paint's Wulfenite in our kitchen which had maple cabinets. The other colors below may also be suitable.
