Lighting is one of the most important parts of kitchen. Having the proper lighting in a kitchen allows homeowners to accentuate their favorite features, and creates task lighting that will provide for better food preparation areas. If you have a kitchen that needs more lighting, consider installing rope lighting under your kitchen cabinets. Rope lighting is available in kits.

Mark the area under your cabinets where you'll place the rope lighting. Use a pencil to mark the lighting's path.

Drill holes in the bottom side of the wall cabinets, using the pencil marks as a guide. Use a drill bit that is slightly larger than the rope lighting.

Attach the rope lighting place through the holes. Use cable clips (or staples) to secure the rope lighting to the bottom of the cabinetry. Cut the rope lighting with a diagonal cutter, but make sure you cut the rope lighting at the right place. Rope lighting comes with an indicator that tells you where you can safely cut the lighting.

Place the plastic cap on the end of the rope lighting farthest from the power source. The plastic cap should come with the rope lighting kit.

Insert the electrode spikes into the conductors on the rope light. Attach the collar and sleeve to the rope light.

Attach the power cord to the rope light, using the connectors provided. Attach the rest of the rope lighting to the cabinets. Plug in the power cord to turn on the rope light.
