Replacement Cabinet Doors - Standard Sizes Explained

When a number of Cabinets are fitted together in a kitchen, bedroom or bathroom the doors and drawer fronts are always slightly smaller than the cabinets to which they are fitted. This is to prevent them rubbing against adjoining items when they are opened. In the UK there are many fitted kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms manufacturers most of whom for reasons it is not easy to understand make some cabinets of sizes which are different from those of other manufacturers (ie not 'standard'). There is a high degree of uniformity between suppliers in the widths of units (usually 300mm, 400mm etc) but for some reason a few cabinets of unusual height may also be included. In your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom the majority of the cabinets may well be of 'standard' size but if only one or two are not 'standard' then purchasing a full set of replacement doors from any of the large chain outlets is not possible unless they happened to have supplied the original products.

What exactly are Standard Sizes? Below we show a chart which lists door/drawer front widths across the top and height down the side. An 'x' in the box indicates that size is 'standard'. For example a typical cabinet size is 720mm high x 500mm width, now remembering what was said earlier the door to fit this needs to be a little smaller and would actually be 715mm high x 495mm wide (see red box below). We can supply any 'in between' size - 720mm high x 500mm wide if you wish, often without incurring any cost penalties. If requesting a quotation and you list your sizes we will use the actual size you specifiy therefore please do not presume that we will adjust to a standard size. Kindly also note that as with any other product that is made a manufacturing tolerance applies. In the case of doors/drawer fronts, etc this is usually +/- 1mm. Although for most practical considerations this is not particularly important you should, nevertheless be aware of it.
