Site SearchMost cabinet doors are attached to the carcase by means of a two part concealed hinge assembly. The part which moves, thus allowing the door to open and close, is invariably located into a 35mm dia hole, which has been bored into the door. The second part (mounting plate) is screwed to the inside of the cabinet. The hinge and mounting plate are joined either by a screw device or more commonly these days are clipped together. A good quality hinge assembly allows considerable adjustment enabling adjacent doors to be easily 'lined up'.Click Image to Enlarge. Click Image to Enlarge.

There are a large number of hinge types available, for all sorts of applications, but all are based on the principle outlined in the previous paragraph. The two types which the DIY'er is most likely to encounter are the 'standard' hinge, ie the type which allows the door to open to 110 degrees. The other type is used in situations where access into the cabinet is restricted, these allow opening of the door to 170 degrees.

Mounting Plates are 'sized' according to the thickness of the carcase material, which for UK manufactured cabinets is usually either 15mm or 18mm. When ordering hinges the carcase thickness should be advised in order we can supply the correct mounting plate.

Soft Close Attachments, two alternative types available, both may be retro fitted to the hinges we supply. One type is screwed to the hinge cup, the other may be clipped on to the hinge arm. For doors with 2 or 3 hinges we suggest one attachment/door, for doors with 4 hinges we suggest two attachments/door.

Piano Hinge - the solution to the Corner Cupboard 'problem'. When replacing existing 'L' shaped corner cabinet doors there is often a purpose made infill piece which is attached to one door. The original kitchen manufacturer offered this type of arrangement for only a very limited colour and size selection. With our extensive choice of replacement doors, however, this is not the best solution. We suggest that a better way is to extend the width of each of the doors and join them together by means of a piano hinge. One door only is then attached to the cabinet, by means of the usual concealed hinges (we recommend using 170 degree hinges as this will allow complete access inside the cupboard). We supply piano hinge (& screws) in continuous lengths of up to 2000mm, in either bright chrome or brass effect finish.
