Painted Kitchen Cabinets

Painted kitchens have been very popular fora number of years now.  Painting a kitchen has many advantages; majordefects in the existing cabinets can be easily covered in the paintingprocess, handles or knobs can be moved to a new location, whereas thatwould not usually be possible when a kitchen is stained.   Alsoa kitchen painted white or off-white will seriously brighten a dark room, give a cleaner and more spacious look. Painting a kitchen (all paintedfinishes are sprayed on with modern HVLPspray equipment) can be less expensive than staining and easier to touch-upwhen those inevitable nicks and dings occur through normal wear and tear.

In most situations chemical strippingof all the existing finish is not necessary to paint cabinets, if the originalfinish is sound. An excellent chip resistant finish can be obtained bycleaning and vigorously sanding the existing finish before priming with"Bin".  Of course if the existing finish is not sound it will needto stripped down to the bare wood before priming.  My many years ofexperience makes it possible for me to readily determine the quality ofan existing finish.

Many people ask me about a painted finish,"will it chip?"  Most of the time when people ask me this questionthey are thinking about an experience they had or someone they know hashad with a painted finish that readily chips, invariably this is causedby poor preparation of the surface to be painted over. I guarantee my paintedfinishes against spontaneous chipping due to improper preparation. Of courseany finish if hit hard enough will ding and chip.

Glazed Kitchen Cabinets

The glazed effect is obtained on cabinets byfirst painting them in a white finish, (usually off-white), then puttingon and then wiping off until the desired effect is obtained a water basedglaze of the desired color, after which a clear coat of M.L. Campbell'sUltrastar polyurethane acrylic waterbased lacquer is sprayed on.
