Range hoods may seem like appliances that dont require much thought, but proper kitchen ventilation is far more important than you may realize. Each time you fire up your cook-top, countless pollutants are vaporized into the air that you and your family are breathing. Installing the right range hood for your kitchen will help to reduce cooking smells, greasy deposits and even carbon monoxide. Sizing, power, and instillation types are three important factors to consider. For a breakdown of how to properly select a range hood, our expert tips will guide you through the process (Tips From an Expert). Our customer assistants are extensively trained on the features, types and instillation of range hoods. Please feel free to call, email or chat with one of our professional consultants (Contact Us). Choose from our full line of range hoods from economy, under-cabinet hoods to high-end copper and stainless steel installations from top brands including Air King, Broan and Sirius. Or, if youre looking for a custom range hood to match your kitchen, we can advise on custom applications including inserts, facades, wood hoods and more.

The purpose of a range hood is to reduce heat, steam, smoke and cooking odors and to vent them to the outside. Range Hoods also trap cooking grease that would otherwise end up on your walls, cabinets, and ceiling. When deciding which range hood is right for you, there are some key things you should think about. Position, size, power (or cfm), ducting options, and style are some of the most imprtant things you will need to consider. In addition, some range hoods optional features such as variable speed control, lighting, and filter types. Our range hoods expert at Kitchensource.com is happy to help you in choosing the range hood that is right for you. In addition, we provide detailed specs and installation  instructions as well as unbiased product reviews to help you in your selection process.

Below is a general overview to help in your selection process. For more complete help, see "Tips from an Expert"

Types of Range Hoods:
Wall Mount Range Hoods is directly affixed to the wall and may have a decorative chimney, or soffit, to line up with the top of your cabinets or to "disappear" into your ceiling. An under cabinet range hood is fixed to the bottom of a cabinet. It may duct directly out the back, may go up through the cabinet or, may go up a little and then out the back. A ceiling mount or island range hood hangs from the ceiling over an island or peninsula. It may also hang from peninsula wall cabinets. Downdraft units are units in which fumes are drawn downwards under the floor and out (like for a clothes dryer) or into a basement and out and are most often used in an island situation if you don't want to block a view - or if your range top needs to be placed in front of a window. Range Hood Power:
Choosing the right CFM for your range hood is very important. There are many factors to consider when determining the CFM you need, such as the type and output of your range top, the size of the hood, the positioning of the hood, plus the length and configuration of your ductwork. See more >

Range Hood Size:
Ideally your range hoods just be just wider than your cooktop. This extra width will carry off much more of the fumes and make your kitchen ventilation that much better. If you decide to match the hood and cook top width, just watch out for possible scorching of the bottom inside corners of the cabinet. See more >

Range Hood Ducting:
It is important that your range hood is ducted correctly to prevent resistance and keep noise levels down. See more >
